Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for someone wishing to apply their engine engineering experience and knowledge in a dynamic hands-on manufacturing environment, producing a world class product.   Ricardo supplies all engines for McLaren’s range of sports and super cars from its Shoreham Technical Centre in West Sussex.  This engine has won the prestigious ‘Engine of the Year’ award in its class for the past three years.  This role is key in supporting the ongoing development of this engine in a production environment.

 

Position overview

The successful candidate will be rewarded with the opportunity to lead an experienced, dedicated team with a broad remit to support the engineering of a very high performance gasoline engine family.  As a key member of our production team you will provide:

 

Engineering insight into engine part and build issues as they occur in production, including at end of line test
Management of engineering change to the post SoP product, as requested by production or the end customer, including cost down and supplier re-sourcing programmes
Investigation and resolution of in-service issues, including dealer and warranty support
A methodical approach to problem resolution using a standardised process (8D), accurately and confidently reported, internally and externally
Engineering guidance to the rest of our team, including production engineering, quality and supplier quality to support them in achieving success in their areas of responsibility

 

Person Requirement

Proven ability or potential* to lead a team of 4 engineers

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - ability to communicate effectively at all levels - Resilience in championing a way forward
The ability to manage the engineering change process (ECS) in collaboration with the customer and diverse supply base
Able to uses own initiative and be proactive in issue resolution - Confidence in delivering own and/or team tasks on time and to high standard
Strong engine engineering ability, with breadth favouring depth - High personal standards of engineering integrity that always strives to achieve a robust solution
Good working knowledge of 8D, FMEA, DVP, Engineering change and control processes
Organised, with an ability to multi-task - Able to assess, prioritise and respond with absolute urgency to serious issues, should they arise
Degree in Mechanical Engineering
