Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for someone wishing to apply their extensive production management experience and knowledge in a dynamic hands-on manufacturing environment, producing a world class product.   Ricardo supplies 4,500 engines per year for McLaren’s range of sports and super cars from its Shoreham Technical Centre in West Sussex.  This engine has also won the prestigious ‘Engine of the Year’ award in its class in 3 consecutive years.  This role is key in supporting the business unit, in the supply of the engine to the exacting requirements of our internal quality standards and our customer’s.


Key Responsibilities


Manage all aspects of engine assembly operations including both production and process engineering teams across two shifts.
Assume responsibility for all aspects of production team management including day to day issues, recruitment and development.
Assume responsibility for ensuring on time delivery and right first time quality of products being shipped to customers.
Manage day to day engine assembly issues
Liaise with customers on various issues including delivery, scheduling etc.
Manage maintenance of assembly equipment (including TPM)
Ensure assembly facility is totally clean, tidy and organised at all times using a 5S approach.
Maintain and communicate a complete set of production metrics including H&S incidents, on time delivery, OEE, headcount etc.    
Drive operational performance by conducting appropriate reviews (OEE, Lost time analysis etc) and generating appropriate improvement plans.
Conduct operational planning in response to customer demand/schedules.
Manage build problem logs and demerits and generate associated reports.
Drive operational improvements using a Kaizen type approach.
Assist with launch of new projects as necessary.
Manage any rework activities at customer site (in conjunction with quality team).





Person requirements:


Experienced manufacturing manager (automotive assembly and or engine experience preferred but not essential). 
Proven leader with strong interpersonal skills. Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and with customers and suppliers.  
Proven experience of working with and implementing lean manufacturing principles.
Good negotiation skills.
Good understanding of MRP systems (Infor Baan preferable but not essential).


Qualifications, Training, Knowledge and Experience expected:


Degree, HNC or equivalent with engineering/manufacturing content.
Automotive and assembly experience an advantage.
Good working knowledge of lean manufacturing
Full UK driving licence
