Job Description

 

OVERVIEW

As Part of the Site Management function, the successful applicant shall join an energetic team of QHSE Professionals providing guidance and assurance across the Ricardo business.  Primarily focusing on Health and Safety, but also supporting the Quality and Environmental Management functions, they shall deliver a range of services to Ricardo divisions.

 

Reporting to the Site Manager, the STC Assistant Health and Safety Advisor shall:

Advise Ricardo employees on health and safety matters (and environmental and quality matters to their competence)
Support Safety Critical meetings, chairing as required
Support Representatives of Employee Safety and Departmental Safety Officers in the discharge of their duties
Conduct Legal Compliance Evaluations against relevant UK statute and statutory instrument, recording findings, producing reports and helping to drive necessary improvements
Conduct Internal Audits against ISO 45001 under the direction of a Lead Auditor, recording findings and drafting reports
Provide support to External Certification and Customer audits, HSE Inspections, and audits and visits by other interested parties
Maintain and develop safety critical records
Lead or support investigations into reported incidents
Administer Systems and Tools; such as the Ricardo Incident Reporting System and the Ricardo Improvement Tool
Deliver Safety Critical Training such as new starter inductions, manual handling techniques, and COSHH awareness
Champion a risk based approach when dealing with all levels of the business, serving as a highly visible safety role model, and front-line source of guidance  

 

The successful candidate shall:

 

Possess a high level of spoken and written English language capability, and good numeracy
Possess good computer literacy and have experience in Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Excel, Word and Power-point
Hold a NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent) in Occupational Safety and Health
Have good experience of carrying out Internal Auditing to OHSAS 18001 and Legal Compliance Evaluations for UK legislation. Some knowledge of ISO 45001 shall be expected
Hold a level of membership of a relevant professional body such as IOSH
Be experienced in leading Risk Profiling activities; Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control, producing appropriate records and communication systems
Be flexible in their approach, able to work with a wide range of people, and be empathetic and professional in their approach to problem solving
Be enthusiastic about continual professional development and developing their competence
Be an enthusiastic and persuasive champion of a risk based approach to all professional activities
