Job Description

Working as part of the Global IT Team you will support the design, implementation, troubleshooting, security and pro-active monitoring of the global network infrastructure. Day to day activities are a mix of operational support and project work. This is an exciting role for someone starting their IT career as you will be working daily with a wide range of technologies, tools and experienced IT staff. The ideal candidate will have a desire to learn but to also bring new ideas into the team. You will be motivated to see those ideas through from conception to completion.

 

Main Duties / Responsibilities

 

Level 2 and Level 3 Support for problems identified with the network. Act as an escalation point for Level 1 (Global Service Desk) and Level 2 support technicians.
Use existing tools / services to proactively monitor the environment with respect to performance and security issues and act / escalate accordingly.
Stay current with relevant technology trends, changes, and updates.
Participate in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/or on-call availability as needed.
Standard system administration duties including hardware installation and patch management.
Follow formal change control processes.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network topology, equipment, configuration, standards and procedures.
Create project plans, design, and implement solutions.
Foster good customer (internal staff and Ricardo clients) and supplier relationships.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

 

Required

A relevant formal qualification within an IT discipline e.g. HND / Degree / MSc.
An active interest in networking technologies and information security.
Confident user of Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2016 (Word/Excel).
An understanding of fundamental networking concepts e.g. OSI Model, TCP/IP, VLANs, 802.1x, VPN, SNMP, QoS/CoS, DNS, DHCP.

 

Training in specific tools & technologies will be given ‘on the job’ and via external training courses, however previous experience in any of the following will be beneficial:

 

Troubleshooting and configuration of LAN equipment e.g. HP, Cisco
Network infrastructure design including link aggregation / trunking, switch stacking, redundancy, LAN topologies etc.
Physical cable standards and installation: UTP vs. Fibre / Termination / Patching
Familiarity with VMware virtual networking & iSCSI configuration
Network monitoring, troubleshooting and capacity planning
Management of Wi-Fi networks including centralised configuration
Troubleshooting and configuration of firewalls e.g. Fortinet
PRTG / HP IMC or other network management software
Dell Server & Storage Hardware
Windows Server 2012R2/2016 & Microsoft Active Directory
Linux - Installation, configuration and basic comments.
Remote access e.g. RAS, NAC, SSL VPN, RDP, MFA etc.
