Job Description

Working as part of a multi-national team you will be a technically experienced power electronics design engineer for a range of applications in automotive and industrial fields.

 

Your everyday duties will include:

 

Power electronics design

Detailed circuit design of all aspects of power conversion electronics (see essential skills below)
Concept system and topology development for power conversion circuits
Electronics design simulation
PCB layout guidance
Bill of materials development and electronics solution costing
Worst case circuit analysis
Failure mode analysis

System and architecture definition
Development of hardware specifications
Working with mechanical, thermal and software design teams to deliver complete product designs
Project planning and task management to ensure successful delivery on time and budget
Technical proposal development assistance and task definition for the commercial team
Coaching and leading the development of others, especially in technical areas
Lead technically and support strategic electronics direction including technology, cost, safety, and execution within a global marketplace
Customer communication and liaison
Power electronics technology road mapping

 

 

Successful candidates will have the following skills and characteristics:

 

Essential:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a related engineering or science subject
A professional and diligent approach
Hardware design core skills / deep understanding of:

Specification of electronics hardware requirements
Detailed design experience of power converter output stage electronics (up to 100kW)
Detailed design experience of 3-phase power factor corrected active power supplies (up to 100kW)
Detailed design experience of 3-phase motor drive inverters including 2-level and multi-level inverters (up to 100kW)
Design experience with wide band gap devices including SiC and GaN
Detailed design experience of gate drive circuits for silicon and WBG devices
Design experience of power filtering techniques and filter implementation including 3-phase input and output filters
Experience of general design techniques for high voltage (up to 1500V)
Experience / knowledge of power switching stage modulation techniques
Power magnetics (inductor & transformer) design for multi-kW AC-DC, DC-DC and DC-AC converters
Knowledge of power electronics thermal management strategies
Design for EMC including knowledge of standards and testing
Worst-case circuit analysis
Experience of schematic entry and PCB design
Compilation of electronics HW functional test specifications
Simulation experience with one or more of the following: Simetrix SPICE, SIMPLIS, Matlab Simulink, LTSpice

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English 
Be flexible, proactive, resilient and enthusiastic
Be able to work independently and demonstrate initiative, as well as operate effectively as part of a team

 

Desirable:

Experience of electronics manufacturing processes and new product introduction
Compilation of electronics hardware design validation specifications
DFMEA
Schematic entry using Altium Designer
Knowledge of Functional Safety standards ISO26262 or/and IEC61508
Project planning and task management to ensure successful delivery on time and budget
Technical leadership within a team of engineers responsible for hardware design
