This is an exciting opportunity for someone wishing to apply their Quality experience, leadership ambition and supplier relationship skills in a dynamic hands-on manufacturing environment. Ricardo supplies all engines for McLaren’s range of sports and super cars from its Shoreham Technical Centre in West Sussex. The role is key in supporting the ongoing development of this engine and new product lines in a production environment.
As a Supplier Quality Assurance Manager reporting into the Supply Chain and Commercial Manager you will be responsible for the quality of purchased parts, from concept into series production from the suppliers and projects you are assigned. Leading a small team on designated projects and production, your key objectives will include:
Forming healthy relationships to promote responsiveness and influence in the supply chain and internally at Ricardo
Supervising, leading, and coaching a small team of SQA engineers, ensuring that suppliers deliver a high standard of quality parts.
Delegating, encouraging, and prioritising workload to the SQA team
Supplier Quality Assurance activities within the supply chain including: APQP, PPAP, supplier assessment audits, product and process audits and surveillance visits.
Generating, maintaining, and reviewing KPI’s
Supporting both production and new product introduction
Problem containments and resolution of parts quality issues working with suppliers using 8D and other automotive industry tools
Creating and managing customer quality requirements that can be cascaded to the supply chain
Generating goods receiving inspection plans and actively monitoring requirements and frequencies.
Working closely with procurement, design, and system engineers to achieve parts that are cost effective, fit for purpose and to the required quality standard
Management of supplier quality performance, including verification and implementation of corrective actions
Managing the parts quality implications of product and process changes
Reporting status against project targets
Actively participating in continuous improvement by developing and introducing new quality focussed processes and procedures to Ricardo
Complying with internal processes and procedures aligned to IATF 16949 requirements
Support and attend production and NPI meetings
Relevant Experience and Personal Attributes
Experience of Supplier Quality Assurance and Leadership where skills can be transferred into the objectives described above. Preferably gained within the automotive sector but other industries would be considered.
Troubleshooting onsite at suppliers.
Knowledge of IATF 16949
Auditing experience (IATF16949 preferred)
Leadership/Management in SQA.
Excellent problem-solving skills, using 8D process.
Experience of quality systems, quality tools & techniques.
Knowledge of automotive technology and product development.
Geometric dimensioning & tolerancing.
A good communicator with intercultural and interpersonal skills together with the ability to communicate and present effectively to suppliers and clients at all levels.
Tenacity, resilience, and focus
The ability to work as a team or on your own and be self-motivated.
Experience in using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Engineering degree or equivalent experience
Hands-on experience of lean manufacturing is preferred but not essential.
This role involves regular travel to suppliers domestically and internationally.
