Job Description

Managing full life cycle projects including the design, development, manufacture and assembly of ‘niche volume’ transmissions or similarly complex components within Ricardo Performance Products division.

The Project Manager is the key customer contact and has full responsibility for delivering the operational, technical and commercial outcomes for both Ricardo and the Customer, through effective management of all the business resources within Ricardo and suppliers.

Primarily based at Ricardo’s Midlands Technical Centre in Leamington Spa, this role will also involve travel to suppliers, other Ricardo sites and customer locations (including overseas) for short-medium periods and sometimes at short notice.

Essential Experience

  • Ability to achieve project goals through the leadership of a multi-functional team
  • Good working knowledge of project management processes and principles
  • Good mechanical engineering knowledge
  • Working knowledge and experience of formal Quality frameworks
  • Ability to manage the relationship with a customer who is technically/commercially competent, confident and demanding
  • Working knowledge of New Product Introduction processes in the automotive, aerospace or similar industries
  • Demonstrable record in delivering projects on time and to budget

Desirable Experience

  • Management of projects through development phase into production
  • Working with complex mechanical systems, preferably automotive transmissions
  • Management of assembly operations
  • Working with and managing Bills of Materials
  • Management of suppliers of component parts
  • Quality control in New Product Introduction (APQP)
  • Design for Manufacture
  • Component and system functionality testing.

IT skills

  • Good level of PC and general computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint.


  • Educated to degree standard in a relevant engineering discipline or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge through experience.
  • Further Project Management (e.g. APMP or Prince2) would be advantageous


  • A project manager may be requested to manage non-product related initiatives within the business or other similar tasks to achieve other business objectives
