Job Description

Testing at Ricardo is focused on the realisation, development and validation of future propulsion systems. At our Shoreham Technical Centre Ricardo have advanced power unit and vehicle test facilities for multiple energy sources. Recent investments in electrified test facilities for e-powertrain systems and both hydrogen ICE and fuel cell test systems have diversified the testing business to align with the ‘fit for the future’ Ricardo vision.

Based at Ricardo Shoreham Technical Centre in the UK, the core function of this role is responsibility for the day to day management of the Test Facility Operations department. The key aspect of the role is supporting our test delivery function through the timely and efficient installation of test articles and ensuring strong, competent and responsive support to maximise uptime throughout the test program. Dependant on candidate experience the breadth of this role may also include supporting with development of new test facilities.


Leadership of the facility operations department at STC

Deliver a class leading installation function
Managing stakeholders to include internal and external customers
Develop the key skills and working practices within your team to ensure

Safe working on future propulsion systems to include electrification and hydrogen
Responsive high quality facility support
The necessary coverage to support our ongoing strategy of making better use of our facilities
Greater use of automation with the test delivery function

Specific focus on the management of facility obsolesce to ensure the highest possible resilience and uptime
Ownership of quality within the test facility department including management of improvement activities with demonstrable closure of customer concerns via the RIT system
Further development of automated reporting tools to show facility performance by technology type
Work with the senior Operations team on test technology strategy, areas for R&D, investment planning and implementation
Mentoring key team members (engineers and technicians) and identifying requirements for skills development where required


You are a degree qualified engineer with proven skills and knowledge in automotive engineering.  You will have a strong technical background in facility management or testing with a wide range of technical experiences, ideally including ICE, electrification, H2 and project leadership. You will be seeking a move into a dynamic and challenging environment that will broaden your experience and reward you with increased levels of responsibility and ownership. 

In order to be successful in your application, you will need to demonstrate:

You are comfortable with reporting to program and business stakeholders and all levels

Extensive test or facility knowledge with direct customer experience
An understanding of different technologies
Experience in quality standards and being audited to these by external parties
Experience of leading teams and managing resource in a dynamic and responsive way
Demonstrable experience in financial management (at project or department level)
A proven track record of ensuring safe systems of work are developed and adhered to
A high degree of customer focus in your past achievements
An awareness of the importance of timely delivery in what you, and your team, deliver
