Job Description
Section 2: Role essentials
Key accountabilities:
Working alone, or as part of a small team your key objectives will include: -
• Creating and managing, for the supply chain, customer quality requirements and associated documentation.
• Problem resolution of parts quality issues working with suppliers using 8D and other automotive industry tools.
• Proactive & reactive supplier improvement activities. Hands-on experience of Lean Manufacturing is essential.
• Management of supplier issues, including identification, implementation, and verification of corrective actions.
• Supplier Quality Assurance activities within the supply chain including: - process audit, surveillance visits and supplier assessment audit.
• Managing parts quality - implications of product, supplier, facility, and process changes.
• Reporting status against project targets and department KPIs.
Additional/special features of the role:
Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualification:
Experience of Parts and/or Supplier Quality Assurance or a similar role where skills can be transferred into the supply chain. Preferably within automotive or aerospace sector but other industries would be considered.
• Knowledge of low volume, series production and product development required
• Experience with various manufacturing processes such as casting, machining and special processes including heat treatment & NDT.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, hands on when required, and ability to work to tight deadlines. Resilient and focused approach in delivering precise and accurate results.
• Experience of quality systems, quality tools & techniques with an analytical mind and used to data driven decision making.
• A good communicator with intercultural and interpersonal skills.
• Strong ability to communicate and present effectively to suppliers, customers and internally at all levels. Ability to build rapport across businesses.
• Pragmatic approach workload management, remaining commercially aware to the key issues. Tenacious attitude in handling workload and issue resolution.
• Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
• Full driving licence.
• Ability to travel nationally and internationally to support supplier visits, potentially at short notice.
• Knowledge of ISO9001, AS9100 or IATF 16949. Lead auditor trained preferred.
Desirable technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualification:
A background of low volume assembly, precision machining of steels & castings would be advantageous
Knowledge of gears and gear geometry would be an advantage
Have working knowledge of 6 sigma, GR&R, SPC, DoE
Understanding of ISO9001, AS9100D, ISO14001 and ISO45001
Degree, HNC or equivalent with engineering content
