Role: Performance Development Engineer
Location: Shoreham by Sea

Purpose:
An opportunity exists for a Development/ Project/ Senior Project Engineer (depending on experience) in our Performance Development team. PD engineers make systems selection decisions based on attribute evaluation via simulation, test and development. Wherever a significant energy transformation is required to meet transportation or power supply needs, our Performance Development team are instrumental in selecting the best technology considering sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental impacts.
Project portfolio is diverse and varied, working on a large variety of projects in the automotive, rail, marine, power generation and aerospace/defence sector, ranging from;
· Combustion engine and electric powerpack concept, evaluation and development
· Application engineering, development testing and liaison with our simulation team
· Complete production powerpack design and integration programmes
Key Responsibilities:
To deliver performance systems activities:
· Capture functional and performance requirements, validating requirements using literature research, market surveys and benchmarking
· Develop system & component specifications
· Develop system architectures
· Support project design team in providing guidance for integration, component details, supplier evaluation and liaison etc.
· Develop and execute system performance validation simulation and test plans
· Steer and guide simulation execution
· Support customer interaction on all performance systems related activities
· Depending on the project(s) worked on, the role will involve some travel.
· QHSE responsibility for those with a team will include risk profiling, procedures, and provision of training.
Key accountabilities:
Essential
· Engineering background with minimum 1 year (Development Engineer) or 2-4 years (Project/Senior Project Engineer) experience in an Engineering Energy Management environment.
Degree in an Engineering or Science-based discipline with technical background in energy management, thermodynamics, simulation and/or development
Experience in any of:
Thermal/electrical powerpack systems performance, emissions and fuel/energy consumption, or
Fuel cell development and integration, or
A system engineering role, or
An attribute engineering role
Knowledge of thermodynamics, energy flows and efficiency chains
· Experienced in developing test plans, test execution & data analysis
Methodical approach to issue investigation/resolution; curiosity and determination
Literate in IT systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Desirable
· Knowledge of requirements management, targets definition and specifications
· Knowledge of emissions and mitigation measures
Knowledge of thermal energy transformation systems and their alternatives
Knowledge of powerpack calibration tools and software
Good knowledge of automotive legislation requirements
Engineering toolsets such as 8D, Six Sigma etc.
Coding in Python or equivalent
Experience in managing project budgets, resource and delivery
Understanding of commercial business factors

Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team outside the immediate department
Equally able to work solo (with support from peers) where the size of the project dictates,
Robust character with strong self-drive and motivation
Organised and rigorous with personal target of high-quality delivery
· Ability to work under pressure and manage own workload to ensure programme milestones are met on-time
Proficient in English (written and spoken) for project and technical communication
· Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
· Ability to work well with people, in a team environment, and to communicate effectively both written & oral
· Ability to excel in a fast-paced, matrix organization
