Role: Test Facility Engineer
Location: Shoreham-by-Sea, UK

Purpose:
Ricardo’s A&I Division are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Engineer to join the Test Facilities team. Test Facilities support the entire Testing capability group for vehicle, engine test, fuel cell and test rig facilities.
You will work inside the Test Facilities team, working alongside other mechanical engineers. The Test Facilities team provide expertise in test infrastructure, and are responsible for specifying, designing and implementing test cell and test rig facilities to meet Ricardo’s engine, hydrogen, fuel cell and battery test requirements. As well as providing day-to-day operational support, the group leads a range of projects to investigate and exploit new equipment, systems, and processes to upgrade the existing test facilities and meet the future needs of our customers. We are passionate about working with customers and in-house teams to develop new and to enhance existing capabilities. We love researching and applying the latest technologies in whatever field we find ourselves working.
Key accountabilities:
Essential
This role offers a unique mix of analytical and practical engineering to implement cost effective solutions, primarily through design using CAD skills, and with some knowledge of dynamics and vibration, materials selection, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics that are applied to:
Fluid handling & conditioning
Design, specification and implementation of high speed rotating machinery
Design and manufacture of bespoke or application specific test rigs
Engine, motor, fuel cell or battery installation on test bench
Alternative fuel test facilities (methanol, hydrogen, ammonia etc.)
Specification and procurement of components and materials
This role may also include support for Capital Project work including:
Design support
Engineering calculations
Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
Ability to work well with people, in a team environment, and to communicate effectively both written & oral
Ability to excel in a fast-paced, matrix organization
Roles at Ricardo, Inc. are individually tied to Quality, Health and Safety policies and procedures. Further trainings and information will be reviewed upon start.
Preferred
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have some combination of the following skills and characteristics:
Application of 3D CAD packages, ideally with PTC Creo 3, for design of precision components, fabricated assemblies and assembly layouts
Application of 2D CAD systems, ideally with AutoCAD or Draftsight, for design of fluid and gaseous system schematics
Interest in an engineering or operational role that involves the implementation of engineering solutions
A practical, solutions orientated engineer, with a record of problem solving
An ability to work on your own initiative
Strong sense of ownership and the ability to deliver practical solutions to technical problems
Drive & determination
A strong focus on customer delivery
Strong team member able to disseminate information and work packages to Technicians and liaise with Test EngineersCAD (PTC Creo 3, ePLAN electric P8)
Communications protocols (CAN, AK, serial).
